Asking for a favor....

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but we've had our lives flipped upside down recently.  My father in law, Jim, has had a stroke and is in need of prayer.  He is going through rehab this week and must keep improving in order to get to stay on the rehab floor.  We've seen improvement over the last 2-3 days and don't know what the future holds for recovery.  Our hope is that he will be able to go home with family until he is able to return home in Rockaway Beach, MO.  He is in the Branson hospital where he is getting some of the best care that I've ever seen.  They have such a loving staff of people ready to help in anyway they can.  We also need prayer for the safety of family members who are taking turns driving 4 hours from Kansas City to Branson to be with Jim.  He does not want to be left alone and I don't blame him.  His improvement in the last 2-3 days has been an answer to prayer but we continue to need prayer through his recovery.  Jim is a man who loves to fish and rides a Harley.  I'm sure the Harley is now in his past, but we definitely hope fishing is still in his future.

Now on a lighter note, this is what we saw when we came out from eating breakfast at the Farmhouse Restaurant in downtown Branson:

How can you not smile at a horse who thinks he is Dr. Suess!

  1. Some of these new regulations are so whacky...he must show improvement in the "next week" to stay in Rehab? (This happened to my grandmother who is a much older person, of course, but she went from walking to not being able to walk at all in less than two weeks after being released from rehab.) I'd urge your family to pay for rehab if it is at all possible by hiring outside therapists if your father-in-law is booted from the program. So glad that he is showing improvement and document those improvements so that you can advocate if it should come to that. Sorry for being so passionate about this topic. Yes, I am saying a prayer right now for Jim (and all of you as the entire family is affected by such things) that he will recover and fish again!

  2. I too urge you to document the improvement scale, sometimes we just need to be proactive. Remember the squeaky wheel gets greased. My prayers our with you all, it's as difficult for the family as it is for the individual. Keep your spirits up. Love your Dr. Seuss horse.

  3. Oh Catherine I'm so sorry about your father in law! I don't understand why they would send him out of there UNTIL he DOES show improvement...they seem to have gotten it backwards! I'm glad that you have seen improvement..that's always a good sign. I will be sending up prayers that all will be well for all of you. Take care.

  4. Thought I posted this, but it didn't 'take'. Anyway, so sorry to hear about your father-in-law. When my own dad had some health issues my friend, who is a geriatric social worker, suggested we check into senior services available through our county. We were able to arrange physical therapy and housekeeping on a sliding scale fee (dependent upon ability to pay). There should be a social worker on staff at the hospital that can help you set this up should he be released. And, of course, I will send my prayers up for him.
