Another Makeover and Halloween is Right Around the Corner

I've had this box for years and had never done anything to it.  In fact I forgot to even photograph it in it's raw wood state.   This box has great storage, but I simply had no place to put it.  My mother decided it would make a great foot stool for her small apartment, so a couple weeks ago we painted it and covered the top with linen.  Our first plan was to use black brads under the lip of the lid to hold the fabric.  Noticing that we were straight line challenged and that our brads appeared to be curving up and down, we went out and purchase rope and wrapped it around the edges three times to cover the staples that were now holding the fabric in place.  It's definitely not perfect, but Mom loves it and that's what matters.

Below is the painting that is currently on my paint table.  I still need to come up with the remainder of the village that goes at the bottom of the painting.  I love the vibrant hues of autumn and all the little jack-o-lanterns are just so fun to paint.  Those little smiling faces will greet the little goblins I'll be adding next.

  1. Clever solution for your stool, and I love your painting so far. I have nothing on my painting table now, with the flood in my basement/studio... I'll be painting the walls and floor first. Hate when that happens, stunts my creativity.

  2. I love your goblins! heehee! Your Fall scenes are so warm and inviting, my friend! And I love the box you worked on. I know your Mom appreciates it and will enjoy it! Enjoy your week!

  3. Your painting talent is amazing. I've never seen a box like the piece you redid, and it is a very nice one. I'm glad you thought of using it in such a way. Love the results, and I also like that floor cover. I guess October isn't that far away. We have just begun to feel summer, and all I do is water!

  4. Oh, the little pumpkin goblins are just too precious! Such a happy street! Oh, I love the fall and Halloween. Your Mom's box turned out beautifully; I'm sure she appreciates it very much. blessings ~ tanna

  5. Loving your painting....the box turned out great! I like the rope trim detail.

  6. The box now a footstool looks great to me. It's the very size I use when seated at the computer.

It's always fun to read what you say about your work...how fun it is to paint the pumpkins and how much you enjoy autumn colors and scenes.

  7. Dear Catherine, hello my friend! Your art is beautiful!!!!! Like it!
