Chalk One Up

"Garden Gate"
This is a verse I wrote for a cabinet that I painted a few years ago. I always wanted to paint a sign with this verse to hang on my garden gate, but haven't gotten around to it. This old frame was painted with Modern Masters Metallic Champagne Paint that I got at Sherwin Williams. It covered in one coat! Most metallics don't cover that well and need several coats. I then antiqued it with a black glaze. This Champagne paint changes color depending on whether you are looking at the frame head on or from the side. It can take on a gold tone or silver.

  1. Good Morning Cathie!
What a wonderful verse. Do you roll or brush on your blackboard paint? And how many coats of black board paint do you use?

  2. What a great sign and verse, Catherine! It would be perfect for the garden.
I was just visiting Penny at Lavender Hill and saw the painting you did for her. It's absolutely gorgeous and it suits her perfectly! Love it.
    Have a great weekend!

  3. I love it Catherine! What a beautiful saying. I love garden gates. I am always drawn to them. Maybe they are mysterious to me? I dont know!

I love the piece you created for Penny! Just beautiful!

  4. Hi Catherine,
I am finally out and about visiting my blog friends and thought I'd stop by and see what wonderfulness you were up to. I see from above and below I am not disappointed. I love the frames finish, I'll tuck that paint color away in my file for future reference. I'd like to say the your cake looks good enough to eat, the painting is delicious, but I don't like chocolate! Now, the pie on the other hand, yum!!!! Wonders never cease to amaze me and your fireplace is a wonder! What brand of magical fairy dust do you use on your paint brush? I'd like the brand please, so I could paint like you!

  5. Hi Catherine,
I'm here from Penny's blog. Your work is lovely and your blog is very charming - going to take a look around. Love the chalkboard poem.
